Zipolite, best travel and tour place in Mexico

Along the Pacific Coast in the Oaxaca region is Zipolite, a one-mile beach that retains a progressive, hippie vibe. In decades past, Zipolite was a nude beach, although that is far less common today. Zipolite attracts travelers in search of a counter-culture vibe, and it still retains an authentic Mexican atmosphere despite the tourists from all around the world. While the beach itself is the main attraction, Zipolite is also well known for Av Roca Blanca, a street just off the beach that offers bars, shops and cafes.

Playa Zipolite is a beach community located in San Pedro Pochutla municipality on the southern coast of Oaxaca state in Mexico between Huatulco and Puerto Escondido.

Zipolite is best known as being Mexico’s first and only legal public nude beach[1] and for retaining much of the hippie culture that made it notable in the 1970s. The origin of the name Zipolite has been lost over time. Translated from Zapotec, Zipolite means "beach of the dead.” Some versions has that referring to dangerous underwater currents just offshore[2][3][4] and locals say the Zapotecs offered the bodies of their dead to this sea and the consequence for why the beach was unoccupied until alternative foreigners started arriving here in 1969.[5] Other versions has it coming from the Nahuatl word sipolitlan or zipotli, meaning "bumpy place" or "place of continuous bumps or hills".[6] The beach is currently popular with foreign tourists, especially backpackers, who stay in one of the many rustic cabins or camping spaces that line the beach.

"Zipolite" is growing backpacker beach destination along the south-western Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. It is between the cities of Puerto Escondido to the north, and Huatulco to the East. Neighboring villages include Mazunte, and Puerto Angel. A happy and expanding tourist town once known for its distinctive hippy vibe, Zipolite still has Mexico's only clothing-optional beach policy. You may recognize it if you have seen the Blockbuster film "Y Tu Mama Tambien".

The perfect place to get away, relax and have fun on any budget. Sea-food here is cheap and amazing. Days seem to turn into months while relaxing on the beach watching whales and dolphins pass by off the coast.
