Cenote Dos Ojos, best travel and tour place in Mexico

Just outside of Tulum is Cenote Dos Ojos, one of the country’s largest underwater cave systems. The name means the cavern of two eyes, referring to the two sinkholes connected by a long passageway. The water in the caverns is filtered through limestone, making it exceptionally clear. As a result, Cenote Dos Ojos is wildly popular with both snorkelers and more serious scuba divers, some of whom head deep into the underwater cavern.

Cenote Dos Ojos (Two Eyes Cenote) is one of the most extravagant diving sites in the Yucatan peninsula. It is also one of the largest underwater cave systems.

It is named like that because of the two sinkholes of 70 meters in diameter connected by a 400 meter long passageway.

There is more natural light here, thus it is a great place for everybody.

The visibility through the water is amazing and snorkelling as well as diving can be practiced.

Dos Ojos is the location of the deepest known underwater cave passage at a 118 meter depth. The whole cave system is at least 61 km long.

The water temperature is ideal for snorkelling at a constant 24-25 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

Cenote Dos Ojos is located just three kilometres off the Highway 307, 22 km north of Tulum and 50 km south of Playa del Carmen.

Cenote Dos Ojos
Cenote Dos Ojos: two beautiful turquoise eyes are looking to the sky. These eyes actually are two cenotes (if seen them from above), they have everything to amaze anyone who is willing to explore in a magical place! Dos Ojos is one of the most famous cenotes not only to scuba dive but also to snorkel in the Mexican Riviera Maya.

The temperature of 75°F (24°C) all year long is refreshing when swimming there after visiting other places in the area of Tulum, like the mayan ruins of Tulum.

Of course cavern/cave diving is one the most challenging and technical diving and present many hazards. But the fauna and the views of the underworld are breathtaking. Also the idea that few people have been diving in these caves attracts all people around the world.

But Snorkeling in cenote Dos Ojos is also a unique experience, and even if you won’t be following the same circuit that the divers, you will spend an incredible moment at the surface and be careful you need to be aware that there could be divers below! We don’t want that you confuse them with some monsters of the mayan underworld!
